Rick Ehrhart and Bob Avinger founded Optcapital in 1998. Rick Ehrhart, JD had 20 years of experience as a tax and compensation attorney. Bob holds a PhD in economics and was a long-tenured professor at Davidson College. The firm was founded to provide elegant and complete solutions for our clients – our hallmark is providing innovations that offer our clients superior investment control, liquidity, flexibility and tax certainty. We are able to meet these objectives because:

  1. Our firm is independent. We are not owned or influenced by insurance companies, investment firms, or trade organizations.  As a result, we can offer our clients the best service and solutions, without limitations.
  2. We built our own administration system. By developing and maintaining our own system, we are free to design innovative solutions for our clients without constraint.

Our track record of innovation is significant. In the past 20 years, we developed innovative programs designed specifically for public corporations, healthcare providers, insurance companies, law firms, hedge funds and private equity funds.

Our law firm deferral program dates to 2002 and was originally called FAR®s for Lawyers.  In the last 16 years, we adapted our program in response to two significant tax laws (457 & 409A.)  In 2012, we rebranded our law firm deferral program the CaR® Trust and filed a patent application (patent pending.)

Over the past 15 years, we have learned a great deal from our clients. We understand the operations of contingent fee law firms, and the uncertain nature of their income. Our products and programs are designed specifically for contingency fee attorneys and address both tax planning and liquidity. We understand the different needs of PI firms, mass tort firms, high volume firms, referring firms, trial firms, one-lawyer firms, and multi-partner firms.

Optcapital spent the past 20 years innovating and advocating for our clients, and we look forward to doing the same for years to come.
